'Jeddah', meaning "ancestor of women", was so-named because of a tomb housed in the city believed to be that of the world's first female, Eve. The second largest city in Saudi Arabia after Riyadh, it is the gateway through which many pilgrims arrive to perform the Umrah and Haj pilgrimages.
