This historical curiosity is ostensibly a museum, but is as much a haunting theatrical experience as anything else. Visitors are shown around an 18th century East London merchant's house, with all the rooms preserved exactly as if the family dwelling there had just vacated the property. It offers an evocative, imaginary journey to time long since past.

A visit to the house, created by the American artist Dennis Severs who lived in the 18 Folgate Street property from the late 1970s, is a truly mesmerising experience.
