How come there are no islands from Malaysia, especially East Malaysia? Either the writer is an amateur with incomplete knowledge of the region's most beautiful islands or he is planning to have one separate article about Malaysian islands alone.

I agree with Zeit Geist, Malaysia has some of the best beaches in the world. Not including a single Malaysian bea**** a travesty. The writer was probably on a budget trip.

Pleasse visit the Emerald Bay and Goldgen Sand beaches of Pangkor Islands in Malaysia before you list the ones inThailand and the Philippines. There are many other stunning beaches in  Langkawi,Perhentian, Redang, Kapas, Tioman and Aur Island in East and West coasts of Peninsula Malaysia. Check them out !

this article is about nice beaches, not nice islands. malaysia has some nice islands and great scuba diving, but not many nice beaches. long beach on perhentian is polluted, most of the beaches on malaysian islands are not nice white sand and they are full of sand flies, sipadan has great diving but not much of a beach. are maldives considered asia?

I think the writer is saving Malaysia's beaches for " best kept secrets in Asia?"

I recommend beaches in Kuantan. Simple and clean with long stretch of sandy beaches. Please go before Lynas start operations...

Harry & Cynthia, it's probably not so much that writer is on a budget. It's more that these are the beaches rated by TripAdvisor's member travellers, who are mostly westerners looking for cheap holidays. MSN just publish, probably bought from TripAdvisor. Malaysia do have nicest beaches in the world, but the price to stay there is 5 *.

The writers has not been to any of the Malaysia beaches as it has listed on only Thailand and Philippines.  We have great island like Pulau sipadan, Pulau mabul, Pulau perhentian, Pulau lang tengah and etc..... also not even listed the maldives.....

That's ok if not mentioned by zeit geist ... Let us "that in the know" on malaysian beaches are one of the best. The trengganu state coastline alone offers great beautiful beaches. Idillic get away . Beautiful sunsets on kampung settings and is still not being commercialize. .. Sorry being selfish. Dont want to share with the whole world!

I am a Msian, yet I feel nothing 's wrong if Msia is not listed in their records. They are talking about beautiful sandy beaches,Msia do have which we see is beautiful but when compared with the above listed sandy beaches, our beaches really no 'fight'.Dont feel annoyed.Let the nos of foreign tourists to our country tell them the story of our beautiful beaches.

To all those who commented to dispute the list above, you obviously cant read English. so please stop reading English language websites and pick a different language based website. The title said 2012 Travellers Award which means millions of travellers who voted for the best BEACH in Asia. From what i know, people from around the world check out the TripAdvisor website. For Candolim India to finish above the Malaysian islands definitely says something. Makes me wanna check out what is so appealing about Candolim India..

A relaxing break can take many forms, from a last-minute urban retreat to a major overseas holiday. Achieving a state of inner calm, however, is another thing entirely, and not something that automatically happens the moment the toes touch foreign ground. As any traveler knows, just getting to a destination can be stressful, so having a great spa at hand is invaluable for a truly restorative getaway.
