The Kunsthistorisches Museum was opened in 1891 near the Imperial Palace to house the Habsburgs' extensive art collection and make it accessible to the public. The lavishly decorated building is one of the most eminent art museums in the world, with major art works of European art history, including those by Rubens, Rembrandt, Durer and Titian. Among the highlights are Raphael's Madonna of the Meadow and Velazquez's Infanta Margarita Teresa in a Blue Dress.
